I used the 4 3/4 inch square die for the Accuquilt Go cutter.
Tip #1 - it would have helped to have folded the fabric right sides together before cutting so they were ready to sew around. Rather than picking up each one and laying it back down.
Tip #2 - When you realize how tip number #1 would have helped, remove only the top cut square and lay aside - all other squares are now together as needed and only the top and bottom squares will have to be matched up.
Tip #3 - when flipping the squares right side out and attempting for an hour to poke out corners with your fingers, do not scream at husband for knowing that the non brush end of a paintbrush makes this task, quick and easy. Simply run the end of the handle around the seam line giving a little poke in the corner and you are done!
#4 When sewing.. keep fingers out of the way. My machine has a bar coming out the right side above the needle and I caught my finger between the bar and the top curve of the throat. Required a little cussing and a band-aid.
Next up on the TO Make list:
- "Credit" Card Holders
- Pot Holders (Do these really need the insulbrite) The ones I use are all crocheted
- Placemats - these were the disaster the other day I mentioned on Facebook)
- Bags-Greg's working on these/ Trudi volunteered (THANK YOU)
- Plastic Bag Keepers - Tonya volunteered (THANK YOU!)
I'm glad to help!! And you're welcome for the paintbrush.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you got so many coasters done and picked up a few tips along the way. I've not made potholders yet but I bought some in the Amish country with no Insulbrite (just some thin batting) and they can't be used for anything hot....only as a decorative item to hang in the kitchen.....as you do burn your hands if you try to use them. :-(
ReplyDeleteYour are a very busy person. Your learning curve sounds like mine - some times you just need to be hit over the head before an easier way sinks in.
