Sewing Blah's

I've been avoiding my sewing machine. I'm not really sure whats-a-matter with me. I had it in my head that I could NOT work on anything else until I finished my BOM for This month. We should have gone yesterday to pick up the new one but still have next Saturday as a back-up. I'm just disliking these log-cabin blocks. I was really into it until about the 4th month - the 5th month I was completely annoyed by the pineapple fabric. I know I shouldn't be that picky about FREE fabric but I'd think they could come up with slightly better blends as I think they clash horribly when the 6 I have finished are placed together. The current block is a rolling log and the directions Aren't quite working for me either. I've shoved the whole thing back into the little bag more than once since mid December. I've been struggling with calling it quits with the whole BOM or continuing on hoping for a magic surprise of how it all goes together beautifully in the end. I'd never do well with a mystery block - I need to know the plan from the beginning. So tonight I decided I really needed to work on something and drug out the Crazy Cats applique project that I started last Feb. I got as far as cutting out all the pieces and then realized I'd no IDEA how to applique. In Sept. Our Quilt leader gave a quicky class and our projects are due in March - so it's 2nd on my to-do list after that damn BOM block. I sewed the bodies of my little cats and then laid them all out on the heat-n-bond to form the whole of the cat. I'm doing this a little backwards because I'd already cut the pieces. SO I'm thinking kinda highly of myself as I'm getting something accomplished. Until I go to peel the cats up! It's been several months since I'd done anything with this and I'd forgotten that you have to heat n bond each piece separately and THEN build the cat and iron it together. oops. SO I have this huge mess with partially stickied parts and only the big overlapping things really stuck together and everything else just kinda flopped off. I've got heat n bond everywhere even though I used parchment paper and it's peeling all raggedy around the edges. I've got one cat re-stickied and put together and then decided I'd better walk away or I'd probably never sew again.

LOG CABIN BLOCK Pictures are of Greg's finished ones... he got the rolling log done - I'm thinking of bribing him to finish mine.

  2. Sorry you are having some struggles lately with your blocks. It will get better...don't throw in the towel. Also...remember that sometimes a certain block OR a certain technique are not ones that appeal to everyone....and there is no shame in not liking a particular technique or block or fabric, either!!!

  3. Greg's got your back! :) Creative blocks happen to everyone... don't be frustrated, it'll all come together. I haven't been up in my art room really, since a week before Christmas!!!! I want to create really bad, but when I'm in there, it's just like... BLAH! I haven't been very inspired lately, either. Maybe it's the weather. OR, maybe you just need more...*FABRIC*...are you ready to do the deed??? I know where's there's a pretty neat fabric shop. They'd never suspect us! LOLOLOLOL *Hahaha* God-forbid!!!
Seriously, hang in there, girl~ you'll get back in the swing of things soon!

  4. oops indeed! I'm sure it will all come together in the end. You really should try a mystery quilt Brooke, it's very liberating not knowing what it's going to turn out like! Very much a leap of faith, so have faith in your own ability to complete your BOM block, and get over this little mental block :) Hugs

  5. Much as you hate not to finish what you started, this process should not make you miserable, either. I can so relate to how you feel. I can't do mysteries, either. And they are a little clashy - not that Greg hasn't done a wonderful job!
